If you wake up with a sore, tight jaw, catch yourself clenching during the day, or grind your teeth at night, masseter Botox is one of the most popular ways to find relief. By relaxing the large jaw muscle (the masseter), Botox eases the force of clenching and grinding — and as a bonus, it can soften a heavy, square jawline for a slimmer profile. At USA Aesthetics, treatments are performed by Nidia Garcia, ARNP. This page is educational, not medical advice; whether masseter Botox is right for you is determined at a consultation. Individual results vary.
What masseter Botox can help with
- Jaw clenching and daytime jaw tension
- Teeth grinding (bruxism), often worse at night
- Soreness and fatigue in the jaw and around the TMJ area
- A square or overdeveloped jawline — masseter relaxation can slim and soften it over time
Many people are drawn to it for the comfort relief, the facial-slimming effect, or both. A consultation determines whether you're a good candidate and what's realistic for your goals.
How it works
The masseter is the powerful muscle that closes your jaw. When it's overactive — from stress, habit, or grinding — it can stay tense and sore and grow larger over time. Botox is placed into the masseter to relax it, so it can't contract as forcefully. Clenching and grinding ease over the following one to two weeks, and because a relaxed muscle gradually reduces in size, the jawline can look slimmer over the following weeks to months.
Units and cost
Masseter Botox is priced the same way as all our Botox — $12 per unit — but the masseter is a large, strong muscle, so it typically takes more units than facial expression lines (commonly around 20–30 units per side, depending on your anatomy and goals). That means your total is higher than, say, a frown-line treatment, and we confirm your exact unit count and total at the consultation before anything begins. Our $199/year membership lowers Botox to $10 per unit, and flexible monthly financing through Cherry is available. See our Botox cost guide for how per-unit pricing works.
What to expect
The appointment takes only a few minutes, with little to no downtime — most people return to their day right away. Relief from clenching and tension typically builds over one to two weeks, and any jaw-slimming effect develops more gradually. Results commonly last around three to four months (sometimes longer in the masseter), and many people maintain them with periodic treatments. Standard Botox aftercare applies.
Relief and a slimmer profile
What makes masseter Botox so popular is the dual benefit: real relief from the daily toll of clenching and grinding, plus a softer, more contoured lower face for those who want it. Whether your priority is comfort, aesthetics, or both, Nidia will tailor the plan to you.
Is it right for you?
Botox is a prescription treatment and isn't appropriate for everyone — it's generally avoided during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with certain neuromuscular conditions, or with an allergy to its ingredients. Significant jaw pain or TMJ symptoms can also have other causes worth evaluating. That's why we start with a real consultation and health-history review. As a nurse-practitioner-led practice, every treatment is performed by Nidia Garcia, ARNP, with a conservative, natural approach that's earned a 4.9-star reputation across the Treasure Coast. We'll always be honest about what masseter Botox can and can't do for you.
